The north-south transit corridor is a multi- modal transportation route which connects southern hemisphere waters to the caspian sea through the islamic republic of iran and from there to st. petersburg through the russian federation and finally through moscow to helsinki, the capital of finland in the northern hemisphere

The underlying motive has been creation of a connecting bridge between south and south eastern asian countries with the north european countries, through the soil of russia.

In the aforementioned corridor, in addition to conventional transportation facilities is a set of rail- ship combined facilities available for the utilization. it is to say that containers loaded in the rail way wagones at the origin, without being changed, unloaded or stopped at customs points, will be delivered to the cargo owner

The containers carried by rail, will be unloaded to the ro- ro ships at the related port and unloaded to the rail wagones at the other end of their sea transportation.

By using this route the required time for thetransportation of goods from the port of bandar abbas to /div> europe which is normally 42 days will be reduced to 25 days.
according to the forecasts the indian ocean russia- central asia- caucus axis which passes through the soil of the islamic republic of iran will be the central axis for development and huge amount of cargo will be traded through this route.
